CRAAP

I read through the Gun Control topic on the Just Facts site, and I found it to be pretty legitimate according to the CRAAP mnemonic device.

  • Currency refers to the timeliness of the information. The gun control information supplied by Just Facts was revised February 11, 2013, so the information is in fact current.
  • Relevance is the importance of the information for my personal needs. The facts supplied by the site completely related to the topic, there were a variety of subsections, and they appealed to the intended audience.
  • Authority refers to the source of the information. There are numerous credible citations listed at the end of the article, but the credentials of the author are not listed. There isn't any information on the author at all. Because of this, I would only be able to use some of the information if I were writing a research paper.
  • Accuracy is the reliability, truthfulness, and correctness of the informational content. The facts are all backed up by peer reviewed or referred sources, and they are all clearly and accurately listed. The tone of the information is not at all biased and completely factual. There weren't any grammar issues or typos.
  • Purpose is the reason the information exists. Although the biases were not clearly stated, the tone and language were unbiased because there were no political, ideological, cultural, religious, institutional, or personal biases. There didn't seem to be any advertisement within the information. Though the purpose was not stated, it was clear that the purpose was simply to inform.

Search Engines

Unit 2: Assignment 1 exemplified how each search engine produces different results. I learned how to properly search for topics, as well as how to narrow the results. For the assignment, I chose to search for Bonnaroo because it was this past weekend and I couldn't go last minute, so I'm interested in finding information about the festival.

Introduction

My name is Nicole Agadoni, and this is my first attempt at blogging! This is my third year at Georgia State University. I'm an Early Childhood Education major and an Educational Psychology minor with the hopes of one day becoming an Elementary school teacher and/or counselor. The remainder of my time is spent waiting tables at Bone Garden Cantina, an authentic Mexican restaurant and tequila bar.

Also, my cat, Bean, is the love of my life.

I am familiar with many of the commonly used Web tools. I use Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr, Twitter, and I used to use Myspace. Although these sites are often accessed for entertainment purposes, I have found them useful in many other situations. I've used Facebook to form study groups and communicate with my classmates. I've used YouTube to view videos for classes, research topics for assignments, and many tutorials have helped me resolve tricky situations. As an Education major, Pinterest has been incredibly helpful with endless ideas for crafts and projects. I've used Instagram and Flickr to edit and find new photos for various presentations. I feel incredibly grateful to have access to the technology and tools that our generation has to offer!
